Juror Critique - Thursday, 22 September - 5 to 7 PM

In case anyone missed Denise's email reminder of Thursday's event:

Our juror, Lenny Moskowitz, will be talking about what criteria he used when he selected the show and will speak on his general ideas about art. It's bound to be a lively, thought-provoking time.

All are welcome: Mill Gallery -  Guilford Art Center, Route 77, Guilford, CT

2016 Juried Show Up and Open

Greetings to All,

It has been a busy weekend, with receiving on Saturday and jurying and hanging today, Sunday. Our juror, Lenny Moskowitz, did a great job of selecting 80+ paintings, and about a dozen sculptures, for s strong, diverse, colorful show.  When I left in mid-afternoon, some final positioning still was under way, but the show was essentially hung and will be ready to view when the gallery opens tomorrow at Noon (Monday - Sunday, Noon - 4 PM at the Mill Gallery, Guilford Art Center, Route 77, Guilford.)

Please plan to attend the reception/awards ceremony on Friday, 16 September, from 6 - 8 PM.

Double Dipping? - May 5 - and Show Planning

Greetings to All,

If you are a GAL member, you probably received an email this week about the Annual Carry-In Supper - May 5 from 6-8 PM at the Mill Gallery, 411 Church Street, Guilford.  Again this year, the GALLERY ONE exhibit will be in place, and this year, Judith Barbour Osborne will talk about her work. Members are asked to bring a dish to share. Soft drinks are provided by GAL.  Contact Denise Casey - dencasey@comcast.net or 203-453-1609 to make your reservation.

On the same evening, member Cheri Miller-Weymann (paintings) and Heidi Minow-Pike (photographs) will be holding the opening reception for their joint show "Spring's Eternal"  at the Case Memorial Library, 176 Tyler City Road, Orange, from 5-7 PM.  Their show will be in place from May 5-30 - Library hours: M & Th - 10 AM - 8 PM; Tu & W & F - 10 AM - 5 PM; Sa - 10 AM - 4 PM.

If that's not enough to think about, it's time to begin planning for the second GAL member show - June 1-27 at Scranton Library in Madison - Receiving May 31, 6-8 PM.  The reception will be Thursday, June 9, 6-8 PM. Take-Down June 27, 6-8 PM. Entry fee $10. No size restrictions.

And it's actually not too soon to begin thinking forward to the juried show in September. Please check your calendar, and sign up to volunteer either at the supper on May 5, or contact Sheila or Denise. Volunteering to help with the shows actually is a lot of fun and does not need to take a large time time commitment, especially when many hands are pitching in.  If you've not helped before, try signing up to be part of a team on just one task, and learn the ropes.  It's a great way to support GAL and to be a part of the solution to providing exhibiting opportunities for your artwork.

IMAGES 2016 Reception This Sunday, April 3 at GUILFORD ART CENTER

Greetings to All,

The re-scheduled awards reception for IMAGES 2016 will be held this Sunday, from 3-5 PM.  This is the Shoreline Arts Alliance's 35th Annual Connecticut Photography Competition & Exhibition. With not a painting in the house (except perhaps photographs of paintings), there's still a lot of good ART to be viewed, and this show is worth the visit, as always, even without the excellent banquet of refreshments that usually may be found at this reception.

I am honored to have two small photo triptychs in the show and to receive one of seven Honorable Mentions. Four $500 First Honors awards went to Christopher Beauchamp (West Haven), Michael Vaile Garner (Middletown), Nicole Croce (Trumbull), and Ellen Hoverkamp (West Haven), and the special Ann Christensen Award (for a photographer "whose work makes a lasting impression" went to Sandra Hale of Windham.

If  you're not already suffering from Reception Overload, come on out on Sunday and enjoy this fine exhibition, great food, and good company.

Perhaps I'll see you there. But if you can't make the reception, the show will be in place until April 9 at GAC  - open from Noon - 4 PM daily, to 7 PM on Thursdays. After that time, the show will pack up and much of it will go to CT Hospice, where it may be viewed from April 14 - May 19.

Many Voices, One Song

Greetings to All,

Well Ava's at it again. She says, "I will be showing with Roy Money a member artist who will be exhibiting his mysteriously beautiful, close up photography of rocks from the South West." - Opening next Sunday, 3-6 PM. Details below:

If you're out for the MAS critique on Sunday, that wraps up at 3:30 PM, still leaving plenty of time to catch Ava's opening in Westville.
